Occupational Therapy: Improving activities of daily living.

Occupational Therapy (OT) provides therapy for fine motor muscles, such as your fingers, as well as evaluating and treating deficits that affect activities of daily living (ADL’s). For example, patients suffering stroke or injury might need OT to regain ADL functions related to writing skills or tying your shoes. Eastpointe uses only in-house Occupational Therapists (OTR/L) and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) so you'll always see a familiar face. Caring and understanding of the challenges patients face, they will work with you daily and can design and prescribe assistive devices to improve the quality of daily living for patients with arthritis and other conditions of the muscles and joints.

Our OT Modalities include:

  • Ultrasound
  • E-stim for pain, functional strengthening, and neuromuscular re-education
  • Diathermy
  • Adaptive Equipment
  • Audio/Visual patient education modalities

Our well-equipped facility includes an apartment setup with full kitchen, bedroom and bath setup to simulate the home environment. This enables patients to practice ADLs such as bathing, cooking and stair-climbing. Before discharge, we will often conduct a home visit to evaluate patient needs for when they return home, and eliminate any environmental hazards - such as a loose area rug that a patient might trip over.
